A

Accident

A sudden, violent, unexpected, involuntary, unforeseen and specific event, external to the body, which occurs at an identifiable time and place.

Agency Repairs

If Agency Repair cover is included in your policy, then you have the option of having your vehicle repaired at the manufacturer’s authorised dealers. If you do not have this cover, then we shall select one of our own approved garages to undertake the repairs.

Ancillary Deductible

The amount paid by the insured in addition to the Basic Deductible.

Approved Garages

In case the Agency Repairs cover is not mentioned in the Policy Schedule the repair to the Insured Vehicle will be done at one of our approved motor garages.

Automobile

A passenger vehicle owned, leased, or rented by an Insured Person, or provided without charge by another person for the Insured Person's personal use, including motorcycles. It excludes vehicles with a gross vehicular weight greater than 2,650kg, commercial goods vehicles, taxis, any vehicle being used for commercial purposes or a vehicle driven other than on a paved roadway.

B

Basic Deductible

The amount paid by the Insured according to the Schedule of Deductibles attached to this Policy per accident. We will not charge you any deductible for theft of the Insured Vehicle, fire or windscreen claim.

Bodily Injury

Death and/or physical injuries to a Third Party, including permanent disability or temporary total or partial disability

C

Certificate of Motor Insurance

This document proves that you have motor insurance in compliance with UAE road traffic laws and is duly signed by our authorised representative.

Child/Children

The Insured Person's children including legally adopted children up to the age of 18 years who are not in full time employment and are primarily dependent on the Insured Person for support.

Close Relative

Your spouse, child, parent, grandparent, brother, sister, parent-in-law, son/daughter in law or grandchild.

Company (Insurer)/ We/Us/Our

The insurance company that is licensed to operate inside the State according to the laws and regulations in the State and accepts to insure the Motor Vehicle and has issued the Policy.

Contents

Household goods and other articles in the home (or domestic outbuilding or garages adjoining the villas) owned by any member of your household and used within the boundaries of the land belonging to your home and stored or located within the structure of your home.

Country of Citizenship

The country in which a person is born (and has not renounced or lost citizenship) or naturalised and to which that person owes allegiance.

Country of Residence

The country where you are permanently residing and of which you are a citizen or hold a valid resident status at the date of issue of the Policy Schedule.

Credit Card

Any debit, credit, charge, bankers or cash card issued in the United Arab Emirates to the Insured Person.

D

Depreciation Percentage

The percentage payable by the injured party on the occurrence of an accident, and who requests the replacement of new parts in lieu of the used parts in case of partial loss according to the schedules of depreciation.

Domestic Workers

Resident domestic servants employed by you, permanently residing in your home and for who you are legally responsible

Flood

An event that occurs within the concept of Natural Disasters.

Golf Equipment

Golf clubs, golf bags, golf trolley, waterproof clothing, golf umbrellas and golf shoes, which are used exclusively for playing or practicing golf.

Hijack

The unlawful seizure of the aircraft or other conveyance in which the Insured Person is traveling in as a passenger.

Home

The private house or self-contained flat at the address shown in the schedule.

Household

The person(s) named in the Schedule and members of the family permanently residing with him/her, including resident domestic servants employed by you and for who you are legally responsible.

Household/Family Members

The person(s) named in the Policy and members of the family permanently residing with him/her, including resident domestic workers employed Sample of of Motor Insurance COMMONLY USED TERMS by the Insured and for who he/she is legally responsible.

I

In-Car Accessories

A radio, cassette, compact disc player or other audio equipment

  • A phone or other communication equipment
  • Navigation equipment - A television or other visual entertainment equipment including video cassette recorders.

Injured Third Party

1. Any natural or corporate person, or their properties, which have suffered an injury or damage as a result of the accident, excluding the Insured, the Motor Vehicle Driver and passengers employed by the Insured if they are injured during and because of work.

2. The family members of the Insured and the Motor Vehicle Driver (spouse, parents and children) who caused the accident.

3.The driver of a Motor Vehicle allocated for rent, public transportation or a vehicle used to teach driving

Insurance Application

The application that includes the details of the Insured, the details of the Motor Vehicle and the type of required coverage, and is filled in by or with the knowledge of the Insured electronically or in writing to renew it within 30 days from the date of accident.

Insurance Period

The period of time of motor vehicle insurance up to the end of the thirteenth month from the commencement of the insurance.

Insured /You/Your/Policyholder

A natural or corporate person, that has applied for insurance, entered into an insurance contract with the Company and paid or has agreed to pay the premium.

Insured Journey

The trip for which this insurance was purchased and supported by a Policy Schedule.

Insured Person

Any person or category of persons shown in the Policy Schedule and must be between 18 to 65 years of age.

Insured/Policy Holder/You

The person(s) named in the Schedule and members of the family permanently residing with him/her

Journey

A trip beginning and ending at your home, within the terms of the insurance contract.

L

Loss of Limb

Loss by permanent severance of an entire hand or foot/leg or the total and permanent loss of use of an entire hand or foot/leg.

Loss of Sight

Total and irrecoverable loss of sight in one or both eyes.

M

Money

Cash, bank and currency notes, cheques, money orders, postage stamps (not part of a collection) savings stamps and savings certificates travellers cheques and gift tokens - used or held solely for private, social and domestic purposes.

This does not include securities, certificates other than savings certificates and documents held for business or professional purposes.

Motor Vehicle

A mechanical machine, motor cycle or any other device that works through a mechanical force, and its specifications are described in the Policy

Motor Vehicle Driver (Licensed Driver)

The insured or any person who drives the Motor Vehicle by the permission or order of the Insured, provided that they are licensed to drive according to the Motor Vehicle category pursuant to the Traffic Laws and other laws and regulations, and that the granted license has not been cancelled by a court’s order or by virtue of the Traffic Laws and its Executive Regulations. This definition includes the driver whose driving license has expired if they manage to renew it within thirty days from the date of accident.

N

Natural Disaster

Any general phenomenon that arises from nature such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, volcanos, earthquakes and quakes, and leads to extensive and widespread damage, and in respect of which a decision is issued by the concerned authority in the State.

P

Passive War

A situation where the Insured Person is not actively involved in war, whether war is declared or not, or any warlike operations, including use of military force by any sovereign nation to achieve economic, geographic, nationalistic, political, racial, religious or other ends. The coverage for passive war is applicable to Medical and Related Expenses Section and Accident and Death Benefits Section and is subject to any excess, applicable to the relevant sections the Insured Person is claiming under.

Permanent Total Disablement

Disablement which entirely prevents you from engaging in or attending to any occupation whatsoever for at least 12 months after the date of the accident causing the disablement and at the expiry of that period being beyond hope of improvement.

Personal Accidents Endorsement

An additional insurance coverage against personal accidents to the Motor Vehicle Driver, the Insured and the passengers excluded from the basic coverage in return for an additional premium.

Personal Baggage

Your clothing and personal effects, suitcases (or similar). Valuables include portable electronic devices, Jewellery made from precious metals or precious stones, fine arts and antiques, paintings or other works of art, collection of stamps or coins, taken on or purchased during a journey by you.

Personal Posessions

Articles (including Portable Electronic device) normally worn, used or carried about by the person in everyday life. This does not include tools or instruments used or held for business or professional purposes.

Policy - Loss and Damage

The Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy against Loss and Damage and any rider to it, which governs the relationship between the Insured and the Company, and whereby the Company undertakes to compensate the Insured, on the occurrence of the damage hereby covered, in return of the premium paid by the Insured.

Policy - Third Party Liability

The Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy Against Third Party Liability whereby the Company undertakes to compensate the injured third party, on the occurrence of the damage hereby covered, and any endorsement to it, which governs the relationship between the parties, in return of the premium paid by the Insured.

Policy Schedule

All issued policy documents outlining information and policy details such as, but not limited to, terms and conditions, premium, covers/benefits and limits, enclosed cover(s), extensions, exclusions and conditions, along with any endorsements issued.

Portable Electronic Device (PED)

Cellular Communication Devices such as Mobile/Smart phones and pagers. Computing Devices such as laptop, notebook, tablet, hand-held, iPad, eBook and PDAs. Handheld Consoles such as games and toys. Media Players & Audio Recorders such as Mp3/Mp4 players, DVD/CD players, Audio Recorders, Audio Headsets and iPods. Photographic & Video Equipment such as camera and camcorders. Personal Timing Equipment such as watches and clocks. Personal Medical Devices & Instruments such as hearing aids, heart pacemakers, neuro stimulators and other implanted medical devices, Medical Portable Electronic Device (M-PED) such as POCs, ventilators, respirators, nebulisers or CPAP machines.

Pre-existing Medical Condition

Any defect, infirmity or condition for which treatment (including medication), investigation or advice has been prescribed or received in the 12 months prior to issue of the policy (for single trips) or in the 12 months prior to booking your trip (for Annual Multi Trips), or any ongoing or recurring medical condition (or complication directly or indirectly attributed to that condition) whether investigated by a Medical Practitioner or not or you are on a waiting list to receive medical advice or treatment.

Premium

The consideration that is payed or undertaken to be paid by the Insured in return for Insurance Coverage.

Property Damage

Damage to a Third Party's property

Public Common Carrier/Public Transport

Any mechanically propelled conveyance operated by a company or an individual, licenses to carry passengers for hire, including but not limited to aircraft, bus, coach, ferry, ship, train or tram.

R

Removal of debris

Any amount we agree to pay for removing debris, demolishing, propping or shoring up parts of the buildings which have been damaged.

Repatriation of Mortal Remains

The necessary arrangements for the return of the Insured Person's remains to the Insured Person's Country Of Residence or Country Of Citizenship in the event of the Insured Person's death.

Road

Every road open and available to public without need to get special permission, and every place that is made available for the crossing of motor vehicles, and is made available to the public by a permission or license from a concerned authority or otherwise, for or without consideration according to the definition mentioned in the applicable Traffic Laws.

Schedule

The document which describes - You and Your vehicle - Any special details of Your Policy such as Excess or special terms and conditions

Semi-Trailer

A trailer without a front axle and is towed in such a way that a large part of its weight and tonnage is carried by the towing vehicle or the mechanical vehicle (locomotive)

Single article limit

Contents and Personal Possessions has a single article limit specified in the policy schedule. At the time of claim we will pay up to a maximum amount of the single article limit on any one item claimed for

Spouse

A Spouse is a life partner in a marriage, generally termed as husband or wife.

Standard Cover

These are basic covers prescribed by the UAE Insurance Authority. These covers can be found in Section 1 and 2 of the booklet

Subsidence

Downward movement of the site on which your buildings stand by a cause other than the weight of the buildings themselves.

Sum insured

The amount shown in the Schedule representing the maximum amount payable for any number of claims arising out of one occurrence

T

Terrorism

Any act including but not limited to the use of force or violence and/or threat thereof of any person or group(s) of persons whether acting alone or on behalf of or in connection with any organisation(s) or government(s) committed for political religious ideological or similar purposes including the intention to influence any government and /or to put the public or any section of the public in fear.

Third Party Liability

The liability for injuries and damages arising from the use of the Insured Motor Vehicle to a Third Party/Injured Party

Trailer

A vehicle designed to be pulled behind a Motor Vehicle, truck or towing vehicle, including lightweight trailer (camper trailer), the weight of which does not exceed 750 kg and it so licensed according to the applicable Traffic Laws.

U

Unoccupied

Not lived in by any member of your household or by any other person with your permission.

V

Valuables

Articles made of precious metal, jewellery, furs, pictures, work of art, collections of coins, medals or stamps.

Vehicle Insured Value

The amount stated in the Policy which We shall pay in the event of a total loss after deducting depreciation in line with the usual scale.
